Model W
The Pegasos Warmblood – our pegasious car
Main Purpose
This model is our first vehicle which does not only have the combined capability of travelling on land and in the air, but for which both capabilities are even equal. This means that this vehicle does not have any limitations in their respective capabilities like our Model D has (land operation only with external power) or also our Model P has (land operation only slow and over short distances). So symbolically spoken this vehicle is not just a horse-like flying animal (like flying donkeys or flying ponies), symbolically it is a real flying horse.
The main purpose of our Model W is normal transport of humans, just like usually done by cars nowadays. So simply spoken this vehicle is a flying car, or in our words a pegasiousThis term denotes the characteristic of having the combined capability of travelling on land and in the air. The ... More car.
Our Model W is therefore able to serve as an addition resp. as an alternative to usual cars, especially in situations in which travelling on land alone is not optimal, e.g. if road infrastructure is often overloaded, damaged/out of order, or if road infrastructure is not available at all.
Specific Characteristics
On land
In land mode all propeller protection frames with integrated electrically driven propellers are retracted and stored under the vehicle floor. They are covered in order to be protected but for better understanding the covers are not shown in the picture.
In this state the vehicle’s width is smaller than an usual street width and hence our Model W is compatible with normal land vehicle infrastructure.
Transition (phase 1)
In transition mode (land <-> air) all protective propeller frames with integrated electrically driven propellers are pulled out by an integrated extension mechanism.
In this state the vehicle’s width is wider than an usual street width, however the width is similar to a land vehicle (e.g. a car) with open doors. This means that our Model W is still compatible with normal land vehicle infrastructure in this state and therefore take-off and/or landing in principle is possible almost everywhere.
The center of gravity in this state is above the propeller plane which would result in an instable flight configuration. Therefore a second phase of the transition follows in order to again have the center of gravity under the propeller planes for ensuring a stable flight.
Transition (phase 2) & in the air
In phase 2 of the transition (land <-> air) all extensible protective propeller frames with integrated electrically driven propellers are still in the same state as in phase 1 of the transition. However the relatively heavy power source, which is located in the front and in the rear of the vehicle, is now pushed down towards the ground (through the space that was occupied by the protective propeller frames in land mode) in order to lower the center of gravity of the vehicle to a point which lays clearly below the propeller plane and therefore assures a stable flight configuration.
This configuration with lowered power source is the configuration for take-off, landing and for travelling in the air.
